Grouping Techniques

Effective Grouping Strategies  October: Teaching for Understanding

In this module teachers will read a scholarly article and watch multiple video clips on how to group students effectively. These resources will help teachers better understand effective planning and instruction, so their groups work for them and not against them in the classroom.

Agenda:

  • Read this article on Flexible Grouping (It speaks to multiage classrooms, but this can also work with multiple learning levels)
  • Watch these videos:
    • Purposeful Group for Collaboration
    • Choosing Strategic Partners
    • Choosing Collaborative Groups
Reflection:
Write a one page reflection (12 point font, double spaced) about your takeaway from these videos and article. What ways will you use flexible grouping in your classroom? How are you grouping students now?
