Massachusetts Guidelines for New Teacher Induction Programs
Attleboro's Mentor Program is based on Massachusetts standards for New Teacher Induction including mentoring guidelines as well as a great deal of additional in-depth research.

Attleboro's Mentor Program
Introduction to Component A Mentoring
You have been assigned a mentee in the Component A portion of the Mentor Program. This program is designed for those mentees who meet the following criteria:
1. they have earned preliminary, initial, or temporary certification and
2. they have never taught in a Massachusetts public school system before and therefore have never been mentored before.
Component A mentors should
1. meet with their mentees 40 – 50 hours a year;
2. report monthly on these meetings to the Mentor Program Coordinator;
3. observe their mentees and have their mentees observe them and/or others;
4. examine their mentees’ students’ work to help mentees plan for their students’ achievement;
5. attend, with their mentees, all mentor/mentee meetings;
6. fulfill all other roles and responsibilities in the Mentor Program Standards.
Component A mentors receive a $714 stipend.
Introduction to Component B Mentoring
You have been assigned a mentee in the Component B portion of the Mentor Program. This program is designed for those mentees who meet one of the following criteria:
1. The mentee has already earned his/her initial, preliminary, or professional certificate and has been mentored previously in a Massachusetts public school system.
2. The mentee has not yet been certified, regardless of prior teaching experience.
Your job as a Component B mentor is to
1. meet regularly with your mentee for a total of about 20-30 hours a year. These meetings should be more frequent at the beginning of the year, but should extend throughout the entire year.
2. discuss topics from the potential lists of topics with your mentee;
3. submit logs regarding your mentor/mentee interactions three (3) times a year to the Mentor Program Coordinator. You will be notified via email as due dates draw near;
4. attend, with your mentee, all mentor/mentee meetings;
5. initiate meetings with your mentee even if your mentee doesn’t think a meeting is necessary. There are many topics to cover under the categories of MCAS scheduling and prep, instructional strategies, assessment, grading policies, unit planning, examining your mentee’s student work, etc. ;
6. fulfill all other roles and responsibilities in the Mentor Program Standards. You do not have to observe your mentee in this program; however, if you wish to, you certainly may.
Component B mentors receive a $306 stipend.
