Growth Producing Feedback

Growth Producing Feedback  November: Assessing Diverse Learners

Growth Producing Feedback is a term all teachers have heard. In this module teachers will watch a video of a writing conference where the teacher gives the students focused feedback. Then teachers will read an article that gives tips and strategies on how to write effective growth producing feedback that will assess student learning and growth. Participants will then reflect on these resources to determine what types of feedback foster student learning.

  • Handout includes a bank of examples of Growth Producing Feedback teachers can use as  guide.


Reflection:
  • Answer the following questions:
    • After watching the video, why do you think the the teacher gave only a few areas to focus?
    • Was the student confident with her writing after the conference?
    • After reading the article, name a few strategies the article addressed on how to give growth producing feedback. Why do you think these strategies are important help students grow?
  • How do you use growth producing feedback in your classroom? What are some strategies will you take back to your classroom and why?
