Theories of Motivation: Dan Pink

How do we keep students motivated?  Is it grades?  Is it fear?  Is it rigor?  These are all questions that we have.  For a new educator it is even more difficult to find the proper way to motivate students.  This module will introduce you to Dan Pink's theory of motivation.  Mr. Pink is specifically speaking about motivation in the buisness world not education but most of what he says is easily transferrable.  His book Drive goes into much more detail about his theories.

It is recommended that you watch the video with your mentee as well after you watch it and discuss some of the theories discussed.

Agenda:

Watch the following TEDtalk by Dan Pink.

Reflection:

After viewing the TEDtalk please write up a one-page reflection (12 point font, double spaced) and submit it below.  The reflection should deal with the following questions:

  • How do you think that Dan Pink's theories extend into the classroom?
  • What would you see in a classroom that used his theories?
