Instructions: The Case for Technology

Teachers are often told that integrating technology into the classroom is a great idea.  However, rarely are the merits behind the idea or the ways in which to meaningfully do this explored.  This module will help you think about how to use technology to provide meaningful and relevant assignments to students and not just to use it to add bells and whistles to traditional teacher centered approaches.
Agenda:

Watch the video from Michael Wesch: A Vision of Students Today
Read the article from the same author
Based on the articles think about the following questions:
  1. What problems do the video and article discuss?
  2. What is the role of technology in addressing these?
  3. What problems are in the way of accomplishing some of these goals and what are some ways around those problems?
  4. How can you use technology to make learning more rigorous, relevant and creative for your students?

Reflection: How can you use this information to help your mentee integrate technology in a meaningful way that increases rigor, relevancy and creativity for his/her students?
